Researchers discovered that high level of protein may increase obesity by preventing activities of brown and beige fat.
Human body store energy in form of fat, the fat is divided into two: white and brown fat. White fat stores energy while brown fat expend energy by creating heat in cold temperature.
Brown fat turn food into energy because they have more mitochondria, previous research explained that brown fat reduce metabolic diseases and obesity in mice.
New research published in Diabetes journal shows that high levels of a certain protein reduces the energy-producing effects of brown and beige fat.
Dr. Satya Ande, a molecular biologist at the Georgia Cancer Center and Medical College of Georgia is the author of the study said high Idi- protein may raise the risk of obesity and diabetes.
The Dr. and her colleagues genetically modified mice to produce more Idi in their fat cells, they fed some with high-fat diet and another group regular diet.
The result shows that the mice that overproduced Idi gained more weight than mice on regular diet, this confirmed the fact that Idi prevent fat burning activities.
