According to researchers, the number of IT personnel required in the medical field is likely to increase by 21%. There seems to be a huge demand for innovative and computer-savvy individuals in health care. Medical professionals have discovered that technology can complement what they do or even make their work easier. Below are some of the revolutionary innovations that are changing health care delivery:

New Technologies in Healthcare

1. Chip Organs

Before a drug is approved by the FDA for human consumption, it has to undergo numerous tests and trials on rodents – which is the most preferred animal for testing. For example, it has to go through in vivo trials, and then go through 4 phases of testing. By the time the product is ready for launch, many animals have died in the testing, and the company has used millions of dollars. Furthermore, patients in need of such a cure are left waiting, worsening their condition. The good news is that scientists have come up with organs on a chip to speed up the testing. These artificial organs mimic the same ones found in humans, eliminating the need for animal subjects.

2. 3D Organs

Thanks to 3D technology, amputees can quickly get organ replacements. The 3D printer takes a short time to create the organ for the patient, speeding up its installation. Already, this process is being used in many different ways such as, creating drugs by pharmaceutical companies,  how doctors may plan for certain procedures, and of course, medical implants. Ultimately, we hope to create 3D printed organ replacements for patients. Now, this is just a portion of what we hope to and will be able to do in the future.

3. Augmented Reality-Assisted Surgery

Normally, a surgeon takes an x-ray of the place that he or she is supposed to operate on. The problem with this procedure is that it exposes the patient to radioactive radiation that can be dangerous in the long run. Some hospitals are starting to adopt augmented reality in surgery as a way to make the process safer and less invasive. Using special smart glasses, surgeons can look inside the patient to determine which area needs to be operated on.

4. The Internet of Things (IoTs) in Healthcare

Hospitals are using IoT technology to track patient activity. For example, the hospital system can be used to identify the real time location of an ambulance and prepare the emergency room and path for the patient once he or she arrives at the facility. Hospitals are also using this technology to find the location of some of their equipment such as wheelchairs and infusion pumps.

Conclusion

The new age of technological development has also benefited the healthcare industry. The above technologies have allowed fast, efficient, and convenient delivery of healthcare services. Since the industry is in the early stages of adopting innovative solutions, we are bound to see more mind boggling inventions in future.
